Bill Barksdale has felt a call to work in
youth ministry since he was in UMYF himself at St. John's United
Methodist Church in Greenwood, MS. A graduate of Greenwood High
School '86, Rhodes College '90 (BA in Music and Religious
Studies), and Boston University '93 (Master of Divinity), Rev.
Bill has served five local churches as their youth pastor.
Ordained in 1995 as an elder in the Mississippi Conference,
Rev. Bill served as the Conference Director of Youth Ministries
from 1995-2003, a time when over 5000 youth per year from around
the state were involved in events and spiritual development.
Bill has related to Madison UMC for the better part of 16 years,
and the other youth pastors in Madison refer to him as the
"Moses" of youth ministry.
You will see Bill on the
sidelines at football games or on the roof of dugouts at
baseball games or sneaking on stage behind the concert band
taking photos. He has the most photo albums on Facebook in
recorded history.
Bill plays guitar and leads the youth
praise band each Sunday night at youth group. Bill is pet free
and plant free, and enjoys a lot of quality time in his house
when he is not on youth trips or at school events. Bill's mom
Kay lives in Belhaven and is an active member at Galloway, UMC.
His brother Dan and family Alecia and Lauren live in Birmingham
AL.
